Golfing great Tiger Woods says he is receiving “professional help” to manage his medications.

The 41-year-old is a 14-time major winner and former world No 1 but he is currently on the sidelines as he recovers from a fourth back operation since April 2014.

And the American was breathalysed in a Florida jail on 29 May after he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Woods denied that alcohol was involved and said he suffered an “unexpected reaction to prescribed medications”, a claim which was supported by the police record.

And Woods wrote on his Twitter feed on Monday night: “I’m currently receiving professional help to manage my medications and the ways that I deal with back pain and a sleep disorder.

“I want to thank everyone for the amazing outpouring of support and understanding, especially the fans and players on tour.”

Woods is due to appear in court in Palm Beach County on August 9 to answer the DUI charge, unless a deal is struck beforehand.
