Watch this footage of Conor McGregor sparring inside a boxing ring, and decide for yourself if he’s got what it takes.
UFC champion McGregor will box Floyd Mayweather, the 49-0 phenom, in his first boxing match as either an amateur or a professional on August 26.
McGregor’s preparation to transition from MMA have been a long time coming. In the video at the top of this page, you can see footage from last year posted by sparring partner Chris van Heerden, who is currently 25-2-1 as a welterweight.
Van Heerden, who only posted brief moments of their time inside the ring, was less than complimentary and wrote on social media: “People telling me Mayweather will have his hands full trying to land on McGregor – stop it! I respect McGregor but I ain’t Floyd and I landed.”
McGregor and Mayweather will meet in a 12-rounder in Las Vegas, wearing traditional 10oz gloves at the light-middleweight (154lbs) limit.
