Trump 'under investigation' for obstruction

15 June 2017 world-news

Things have just become even more serious for Donald Trump.

For months now it’s been his mission for it to be stated publicly that he is not personally under investigation. Former FBI director James Comey assured him three times that he was not.

But that’s no longer true.

The Washington Post is reporting that the special counsel led by former FBI director Robert Muller is now looking into whether Mr Trump .

Three senior intelligence officials are being interviewed this week to assess whether the President broke the law.

Until recently the investigation was focused solely on Russia’s meddling and possible collusion with the Trump campaign during the 2016 election.

Questions have swirled around potential obstruction of justice since Mr Comey’s dramatic testimony last week.

He said that the President told him to end the investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Mr Trump denied those allegations, saying he would be more than willing to offer his own testimony under oath.

Mr Trump’s legal team responded angrily to the report that he is being personally investigated saying: “The FBI leak of information regarding the resident is outrageous, inexcusable and illegal.” A statement that offers no denial.

In characteristic style Mr Trump himself struck back on Twitter.

Once again he called it all a witch hunt, adding: “They made up a phony collusion with the Russians story, found zero proof, so now they go for obstruction of justice on the phony story. Nice.”

Most of his supporters will agree but this is reaching a point where that no longer matters.

Donald Trump has been a disruptive presence on the world stage.

All investigations may ultimately prove no wrongdoing.

But right now – this does not look good.
