Paceman Kemar Roach has been recalled to the West Indies squad for their upcoming Test tour of England.

The 29-year-old has a good Test record, with 122 wickets in 37 appearances, but has not played five-day cricket since January 2016.

However, he is now back in a 15-man squad which will take on England in a three-match series, including the inaugural day-night Test in England at Edgbaston from August 18.

The squad also features uncapped duo Kyle Hope, a third option as opening batsman, and Raymon Reifer, a left-handed all-rounder, who have impressed in their domestic first-class domestic competition.

Top-order batsman Darren Bravo has missed out on selection, the squad having been picked before he issued an apology for labelling West Indies Cricket Board president Dave Cameron a “big idiot” on Twitter.

Chairman of selectors Courtney Browne said: “The core group of this squad has been playing together from the Test series against India last year in the Caribbean.

“This bowling group has played around 10 Test matches consecutively and quite a number of ODIs together over the last year, and they had success which augurs well for their continued development.

“Kemar’s return is welcomed as he was one of the best fast bowlers in Tests in the recent past for us. We have seen him during the last Digicel R4Day season show signs of his return to form.

“He may not be bowling as quickly as before, but still possesses that skill we all knew he had, plus his experience adds greater depth to the attack.

“Overall, it will be a tough series, but we all have seen this young team fight before and I am sure they will continue to show similar qualities on this upcoming trip.”

The squad will play three warm-up matches before the Test series gets underway at Edgbaston.
